– Hillary Adams –

I heard about this judge, William Adams, who beat his daughter with a belt, and I thought, “that’s not cool,” and then I didn’t think about him any more.  Well, today some people were watching the video his daughter leaked on the internet, and I watched it with them (much to my dismay).   Here is what I saw:  a grown man beating the shit out of his 16-year-old daughter with a belt … and a board.  He was angry, so he got a belt and whipped her with it – her arms, her legs, her back, her front.  He got madder when she wouldn’t bend over and let him whip her butt, so the belt just flew everywhere.  And then I could hear her mom’s voice on the video saying, “just take it like a grown woman.”  And then I felt like I was going to throw up, so I walked away.  Who does that?  What kind of fucked-up, control freak beats the shit out of any woman, let alone his 16-year-old daughter?  Does that make him feel like more of a MAN?  And what kind of crazy bitch allows her husband – encourages her husband – to keep beating her daughter?

Did I mention that the girl has cerebral palsy?

Did I mention that the dad is a Texas family law judge who presides over child abuse cases?

Did I mention that he still has that job, and since the statute of limitations ran out, he won’t face any charges?

I dare you to watch the video and not get sick.  Why are people beating their children at all?!  I concede that it might be necessary to spank an especially unruly child, but discipline is not the same as vicious child abuse.  Degradation, emotional abuse, physical torture … those things are not an effective (or legal) means of disciplining a child.  You know who should be aware of that?  A family court judge.  His defense is that he was angry.  He lost his temper.  He apologized.  I call bullshit on that.  I have children.  I have lost my temper with my children.  I have never hit my children.  If a person can’t control him- or herself, they shouldn’t be in control of other people either.  And they sure as hell shouldn’t be in charge of strangers whose families are in crisis.  This piece of shit should be in jail, not behind a courtroom bench.

It’s really time people started paying attention to what’s going on around them.  This girl told people what was going on and no one believed her, because her dad was such a “great guy.”  Elected officials shouldn’t get preferential treatment in society – just because a person is a government representative doesn’t mean he or she is above the law.  Hypocrisy permeates society at nearly every level.  Not cool.
